Germination; Sow under glass in autumn. Scarify seed prior to sowing, this may be done by gently rubbing the seed between 2 sheets of sandpaper. Surface sow onto moist, well-drained seed compost. Just cover seed with a sprinkling of soil. Place in a greenhouse or cold frame. Natural winter cold of 3°C should offer ideal conditions for germination to occur in spring as the weather warms. Germination can be erratic taking up to 1 year, depending on time of sowing. Transplant seedlings when large enough to handle to 8cm pots and grow on under glass for their 1st winter. Acclimatise and plant out the following summer.
Growing; Prefers a fertile, well-drained, loamy soil in full or partial sun. Easy to care for.
Cultivation; Propagate by seed or semi-ripe root cuttings taken in midsummer. Pruning group 1. No routine pruning necessary. Prune if needed in late winter or early spring. After pruning mulch and feed.
