Germination; Sow indoors in late winter-spring. Prior to sowing chip or scarify seed and soak in warm water for 24 hours. Surface sow onto moist, well-drained seed compost. Just cover seed with a sprinkling of soil. Ideal temp. 20-22°C. Germination takes 15-20 days approx. Transplant seedlings when large enough to handle to 8cm pots and grow on under glass.

Growing; Grow under glass in the UK. Prefers a heavy, clay, alkaline, moist soil. Tolerant of most soils. Prefers full sun but tolerant of partial sun. Requires a high level of watering, in its native Africa up to 1500mm annual rainfall, here water regularly but do not over-water. Prefers a temp. of 25°C but can tolerate down to 15°C.

Cultivation; Can become quite leggy so pinch out growing tips to encourage bushiness. Requires little attention. Propagate via cuttings placed in moist sand or vermiculite.
